When Partnership Means Asking, Listening, and Showing Up

A good partnership isn't just about what one organization can give another.

It's about asking, "What do you need?" and then finding a way to help.

That's what makes our partnership with Feed the Children so meaningful.

Feed the Children works alongside communities, local organizations, school districts, donors, and volunteers to help children and families access food, everyday essentials, and opportunities so every child can survive and thrive. Through its Partner Market program, Feed the Children provides resources to local organizations like Freedom City, which can then share those resources with the children and families they know and serve.

And something that sets them apart...they ask what we need.

Their team takes the time to get to know Freedom City, understand our programs, and learn about the children and families we serve. Their staff is welcoming, responsive, and genuinely interested in finding ways to support the work already happening in our community. 

That matters.

More Than a Donation

This year alone, Feed the Children has provided  $14,769 in in-kind donations  to Freedom City.

Those donations have included supplies for our programs and organization, food and drinks, educational games and books, clothing, backpacks, lunchboxes, water bottles, and more.

For a nonprofit, those resources make a real difference.

Every box of supplies we don't have to purchase is funding we can keep focused on our programs. Every backpack, book, game, and essential item we receive is something we can put directly into the hands of a student or family.

In-kind donations may not always show up as a check on a nonprofit's budget, but they still have a very real impact on the bottom line.

They help us stretch every dollar a little further.

And sometimes, they provide something we didn't even know we needed until someone asked.

Partnership That Reaches Beyond Freedom City

Freedom City is just one organization benefiting from Feed the Children's work.

Feed the Children works with more than 500 local community partners across the United States, including schools, organizations, and community-based groups that understand the needs of the families they serve.

That means resources moving through Feed the Children don't stay in one place. They reach organizations already connected to their communities and trusted by the families they serve.

Here in Oklahoma City, Feed the Children's distribution center and Partner Market help local partners access resources and get them to families in ways that are practical, local, and responsive to community needs.

That's what partnership looks like at its best: organizations bringing their own strengths to the table and working together to reach more people.

More Than Meeting a Need

Feed the Children recognizes the important role Freedom City plays in supporting students’ academic, social and personal growth.

That impact was clear when Feed the Children joined Freedom City for its “Are You Smarter?” fundraising event this year. Watching students demonstrate their knowledge, skills and confidence reinforced how consistent support, caring mentors and meaningful learning opportunities can help children recognize their own strengths and possibilities.

That is something we share with Feed the Children: the belief that children need more than one kind of support to thrive.

Food and essentials matter.

Academic support matters.

Mentorship matters.

Encouragement matters.

And when organizations work together, those pieces can come together in ways that help support the whole child.

For Freedom City, our partnership with Feed the Children means access to resources that support our students and families while helping us make the most of the resources entrusted to us. For Feed the Children, our organization is one of many community partners helping connect those resources with children and families.

It's a simple idea, but a powerful one:
